Modularity Ethos
We believe that every manager, department leader, and budget-line decision maker should be empowered to understand their budget, spend, and financial impact on the company.
We believe that every finance professional should be a strategic resource that knows which financial levers to pull, when, and how much.
We believe that the benefits of more strategic finance are realized when department leaders and finance professionals can collaborate together.
Our Story
Doug and Stephen founded Modularity after experiencing the challenges of managing FP&A at high-growth startups. That included:
Pulling data from existing FP&A systems and back-and-forth emailing with each department separately.
Building static dashboards that aren’t actionable and don’t give managers the ability to transparently spend, request, and prioritize budgets in a way that they see most effective.
Context for decision making, strategy, and prioritization getting lost in one-off emails.
Best-guess spend and headcount forecasting for months ahead that became obsolete when business priorities changed.
We knew there was a better way, so we built it.

Our Guiding Principles
- Ownership
- Transparency
- Progress
Ownership
We fully dig into and understand the problem we’re trying to solve, we propose and develop solutions, we validate with customers, and we teach others to continue progressing as a team. No job is too small or too big, we take ownership of our success.
Transparency
We articulate our thoughts, ideas, proposals, and plans clearly and frequently. Writing is how we communicate complex topics and make decisions with rigor. We don’t have to wait for meetings to communicate, we share in public channels so it’s easy for anyone to find answers.
Progress
We move fast and listen to direct customer feedback for incremental improvements. We always seek to understand the customer's needs so we can solve proven problems. We’re always looking for great people to help us scale. Think you're up for the challenge? Check out our careers page.
